Councils in the south east Queensland region have implemented Regional Water Supply Restrictions.
The regional water supply is calculated from the raw water supply levels in our three major south east Queensland dams. The three dams are: North Pine, Wivenhoe and Somerset.
SEQ Regional Water Supply Restrictions
New Gardens, Lawns and Landsaping do not require a special permit. They do however need to comply with the restrictions as noted in the schedule for the current level of water supply restrictions.
Solutions to create sustainable landscapes
Camouflage has developed a range of solutions to overcome the current restrictions so you can still have the garden you desire.
- Install a rainwater tank or dams on acreages. Water restrictions do not apply to the use of harvested rainwater, so long as you do not top up your rainwater tank/dam from the mains supply.
- When designing a garden, we select and recommend a range of water wise plantings strategies such as the use of dry tolerant Australian natives, grasses, succulents and arid plants, and incorporating aggregates and other non water reliant options.
- Mulch the garden - mulch keeps up to 70% more water in the soil
- Limit the lawn area and use drought tolerant turf species
- Apply organic wetting agents (available from nurseries) to keep water and nutrients in the soil
- Try to water as late or as early as possible (within restriction times) to reduce evaporation
- Don't water when it is likely to rain or when wind is forecasted
- When cutting your lawn, raise the lawn mower blade to at least three inches. A lawn cut higher encourages grass roots to grow deeper, shades the root system and holds soil moisture
Camouflage recognizes the importance of conservation and responsible use of our most precious natural resource ... Water.
Camouflage utilizes and recommends only licensed contractors for the installation of these systems.
